We are often asked what exactly we do and produce. Often there is no clear answer to this question – even when you look around in our production. We produce many constructions, which are hidden inside some finished product. However, we also manufacture some devices – various sewage and wastewater treatment systems that are mainly used on ships. These systems can also be used in construction, oil rigs, in the mountains and elsewhere, where natural resources are limited, and waste disposal takes place on site.

That is why our employees in the projects and assembly department are always busy. Every project is unique - depending on the destination country, the delivery time, the materials used or the quality requirements. Our task is to produce with the highest quality and deliver on time, regardless of the difficult situation in the world.

Here are some examples of such projects:

Tallink MyStar

On April 6, 2020, because of yearlong preparations at Rauma Marine Constructions shipyard in Finland, one of the Tallink Group's key projects started - the construction of the environmentally friendly high-speed vessel MyStar. It is a great honour for our company to produce a food waste collection system, four vacuum units (Onlinemax), two biological membrane reactors (MBR 45) and other smaller equipment for this ship. All devices have passed the factory acceptance test and are awaiting approval from the end customer. The equipment is then cleaned, packed, and shipped to Finland.

Windstar Legend

Windstar Legend is the second ship in the Windstar family. The overhaul of the first ship Windstar Breeze is in the final stages and in the summer the repair of the second ship Windstar Legend was started. All components and assembly parts for two MBR70s, including smaller products, were ordered from us.

Viking River USA

The company Viking River USA ordered from us an MBR145 and two blower stations for the American market. Our customer was in a hurry with this project. We are delighted that we were able to meet customer expectations and produce the parts at an accelerated pace.

As mentioned above, these projects are just few in a long list. Thanks to good cooperation and partnership, the number of such projects is currently increasing. This requires constant commitment and great flexibility from our employees.

We cooperate with our good client and partner Evac OY at very different levels to get the best results. Our assembly specialists, who assemble the equipment under factory conditions and know the customer's products through and through, have sailed on cruise ships in the USA under special agreements, replaced the components of wastewater treatment systems on ships in ports and assembled the equipment in shipyards. In this industry every minute counts and practical knowledge is invaluable.

From the 17th to the 27th of February, the head of our assembly department, Andus Sulg, was sent to the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Italy. His task was to check the condition of the water treatment system to be installed on board of cruise ship Windstar Breeze, which was in the dockyard for maintenance, and to plan further activities. Our company received the order to install this system.

Andrus had to coordinate the assembly work of local workers. He managed to assemble the components inside the MBR device and prepare the device for the welding work. He did this with the help of two only Italian-speaking employees and a Swiss knife. The work of welders, transport workers and assemblers had to be coordinated as well. Andrus found himself gluing plastic pipes, turning screws, measuring and looking for the necessary details. His experience shows that things succeed when there is a will to work together.

MDC Max Daetwyler Eesti AS - family friendly employer

On October 17 we received a silver level certification for family-friendly employers from Minister of Social Affairs Tanel Kiik and Minister of Population Riina Solman.

The Family Friendly Employer certification program has been launched by the Ministry of Social Affairs in cooperation with Civitta Eesti AS. Employers in the private and public sectors as well as non-governmental organizations can join the certification process. The program lasts 1.5-3 years, after which the organization is awarded a certificate. There are three levels of certification: bronze, silver or gold. The consultation and evaluation process include a variety of aspects of working life, from recruitment to termination of working contracts, giving credit to employees, supporting employees’ professional development, working environment, communication effectivity, organizational culture and internal working climate.

This year a total of 24 employers were awarded a certificate on bronze, silver or gold level. Before those 13 employers went through certification.

We are proud to have concluded to process on only 1,5 years. During this time, we manage to implement 41 actions on the basis of our activity plan. According to our team members the most successful activities were the job shadowing day, joined events of our teams and open house for family members. We also made some organizational changes, such as shortening night shifts, home-office possibilities, new working arrangements taking into account our team members’ needs and additional paid holidays. Within the framework of the program we installed outdoor fitness equipment, reorganized parking on our premises and implemented our company’s intranet for team members.

We would like to thank everybody, who has worked and thought with us in order to make the innovations and changes of the last years happen in our organization, which made our company more and more family- and employee friendly. 

The wait for a new MDC Eesti newsletter, which gives information about the developments in our company, is finally over. Who has their birthday, what is happening in departments, who will be visiting the company, where can I quickly find the documents I need for my work – everything you need is now at hand.

Everyone at our company can use our new intranet, which was established on the basis if SharePoint Online, for internal information exchange. We acquired Office 365 licenses and set up e-mail addresses for all employees for this purpose.

Employees can use the intranet to read Daetwyler news, keep an eye on the events calendar, participate in surveys and view important internal documents. We have also opened a recognition corner in order to promote an internal culture of recognition, which makes it possible for everyone to praise their colleagues. All of the information is available in Estonian and Russian, and it is also easy to follow on a smart phone.

Evac traditionally invites its suppliers to the Supplier Days every two years to give them an overview of future trends, developments and market needs.

This time, the Supplier Days were held on 5 and 6 June in Antibes, and the main topic was Lifecycle services - Evac's new strategy and economic acceleration of service & retrofit markets. These two days were intense and full of information, and included lots of communication, new knowledge and business connections. Meetings and knowledge that are the foundation for improving and increasing cooperation. Digitalisation is a must also in cooperation with suppliers, many ideas were shared and the possibility of using smart solutions was discussed, as they would make our work easier and allow us to use our knowledge better.

However, the highlight for us was not so much the inclusion of super modern technical solutions (the necessity of which cannot be underestimated), but the passion and commitment with which many employees of Evac Group perform their work. The company’s strengths do not lie directly in the infrastructure and good solutions, but in employees like Jaco Conradie (HEM*, President) or Frederic Matysek (HEM, Technical Sales Engineer), who do their jobs with dedication and value clients as the highest priority. It’s not only important to meet the needs of clients, but to think with them and for them. To anticipate what clients need and prevent any problems that may occur, and to follow the principle that everything is possible – you just have to want to find the solutions.
