On the 17th of November, the Minister of Health and Labour Tanel Kiik and the Minister of Social Protection Signe Riisalo awarded this year's Family Friendly Employers, including the companies that have passed the ex-post evaluation process. MDC Max Daetwyler Eesti AS retained the silver label for family-friendliness.

Participation in the Family Friendly Workplaces programme is a long-term process, led by the management of the organisations in close cooperation with the employees. Organisations that have been awarded the final label must undergo a follow-up assessment every two years. In 2021, 16 companies have passed the ex-post evaluation process, including MDC Max Daetwyler Eesti AS.

From 25 to 29 October, MDC Estonia's welding department manager and a welder visited Blechexpo/Schweisstec in Stuttgart. There were leading manufacturers of sheet metal cutting machines and welding and grinding equipment represented. The aim of the visit was to get an overview of the new equipment on the market.

The division manager of MDC Estonia had the opportunity to visit this year's engineering exhibition in Milan, Italy.

The total number of visitors was around 60 000. Around 700 companies from 34 countries were exhibited. The whole spectrum of production was on display, from metalworking to metal cutting, from robotics to automation, from hand tools to machinery, from mechatronics to more complex technologies. More than 3 500 machines were on offer, worth more than half a billion euros.

The aim of the visit was to see innovations in the field of metal cutting and to identify companies producing portal-type machines. 

We gained valuable information on different machines for future investments.

Our Road Captain Hanspeter Mohr led the motorcyclists through Entlebuch and Emmental. Meanwhile, Markus Käser, Martin Nussbaum and Simon Ryser had prepared everything for a nice barbecue in Ursenbach.

Mahdi attended the training center in Langenthal during his first two years of apprenticeship. There he acquired the basic skills as polymechanics technician.

Mahdi has been working at our plant in Ursenbach since 2 August 2021. Trainer and master craftsman Roberto Cron and the practical instructors in the production and technology department are training him on our large machines. 

Welcome Mahdi – we are pleased to have you as an apprentice in our team. We wish you an interesting and instructive training period with us.

A safety culture starts with the management. In order to sensitise our supervisors to the topic of workplace safety and to provide everyone with a solid basic knowledge, we organised a training course with the SUVA. 

Mrs. Andrea Zumstag-Mohyla, SUVA prevention specialist, guided us through the course. She explained how accident prevention not only prevents suffering and pain for people, but is also economically and legally important for the company. Pictures from our company showed our weak points and potentially dangerous situations. Impressive films from the SUVA showed what can happen if vital rules are not followed.

Last year we also joined the Safety Charter. None of our work is so important that we risk the lives of our employees.  Every employee has a STOP card. This means that in case of danger, the employee must say STOP and may only continue working once the danger has been eliminated. With these and other measures, we commit ourselves to the health of our employees.

In order to be competitive, MDC Ursenbach strives to make productivity as efficient as possible. Competitive prices can only be achieved through lower unit costs. This was the reason why we introduced the unmanned night shift. It sounds easier than it was. How can we let our large machine run without people? We have successfully achieved this with our team. With a lot of preparation and dedication, we have managed to line up a 3-shift operation, where in the third shift, the machine runs itself. Due to the correct setup and the correct programming, multiple workpieces are automatically milled.

Twenty years ago, this was probably unthinkable for all of us – and yet Daetwyler Ursenbach achieved it with clear goals and visions. I am thrilled to see what we have achieved. With our team and many different ideas, we continue to optimize ourselves to be not just good but excellent.
